You may need to transfer your domain to another account if you want to transfer it to another IONOS account under your name, or if you’ve agreed to transfer it to another party who also has an IONOS account.
To transfer a domain to another account, you need to complete two steps:
- Firstly, you need to prepare your domain for transfer from the account that currently holds it.
- Secondly, you need to initiate the domain transfer request from the account that will receive the domain.
To prepare for the domain transfer:
- Sign in to the IONOS account that currently holds the domain.
- Verify that you meet all the requirements for a successful domain transfer.
- Disable the Domain Transfer Lock.
- Disable Private Registration.
Then Obtain the Domain’s Authorization Code.
After completing the preparation steps, the remaining process must be done using the account that will receive the domain.
To initiate the domain transfer request:
- Log in to the account that will receive the domain.
- From the MENU drop-down, select Domains & SSL.
- Click Add Domain at the top right of the page.
Upon logging in to the account that will receive the domain, you will be directed to the IONOS Shop to complete the domain transfer request. Enter the domain name in the text box and click Check.
If you are notified that the domain is already registered, click Transfer it to IONOS Now.
Enter the domain’s authorization code in the Authorization section.
Once the domain transfer request is submitted, the current domain owner will need to approve it before the transfer can begin. Ionos will keep you informed via email about the progress of the domain transfer.
